U.S. Representatives Don Bacon and Ro Khanna plan to introduce bipartisan legislation that would exempt coffee products from any tariffs imposed after Jan. 19, 2025 ...
Bacon and Khanna said they focused on coffee because they want to help Americans save on a daily staple, according to the report...
Coffee is one of the items that are keeping food prices in the United States persistently high since the Trump administration applied a 50% tariff on Brazilian imports at the end of July, including green coffee...
Brazil used to supply a third of all the coffee used in the U.S., but shipments have dried up since the tariffs were imposed.
As of 2025, the U.S. has a trade surplus with Brazil, with total exports of approximately $26.6 billion and imports of about $22 billion, resulting in a surplus of $4.5 billion. Trump's tariffs on Brazilian coffee are purely petty and vindictive, because one of the convicted felon's cronies, Jair Bolsonaro, was convicted of attempting a coup to stay in office after losing his reelection bid in 2022.

I bet the OP pays $7.00 for a cup of coffee at Starbucks when he could make it at home for well under .50 cents a cup.

It's a bit extravagant on my part sure but I buy Newman's Own K-Cups (96 count) at Costco and a 10oz cup is .41 cents.

I stock-up when they run a coupon sale. Just bought three boxes on sale so I suspect the per-cup cost is lower.

Best K-Cup coffee I've had.

To be honest I've never tried any of the Newman's Own products that were not top-notch for store bought stuff.

Or maybe they have crop problems in Brazil. This is from 7 months ago, but supply chain impacts don't go away overnight.

Arabica coffee prices are especially impacted, as Brazil, the crop's largest producer, faced a lengthy drought in 2024, leading to poor crop estimates for the upcoming year. Because of this, as International Comunicaffe reported, Volcafe specialists cut their 2025 and 2026 forecast for Arabicas to 34.4 million bags, down nearly 11 million bags from the September estimate.

Why slap a huge tariff on a nation with which one enjoys a trade surplus that further bloats the price for Americans?

Because Trump is trying to fix our trade in general, and also pressure countries to go with US interests?

I know you jerk off nightly wishing Trump was taken down like they did in Brazil.

But, but, I thought Brazil pays those tariffs?

If that is your pretext, it has demonstrably failed.

Your nightly Trump emissions do not assuage his bloating coffee prices for Americans.

It hasn't failed, it's still a work in progress.

And your love of countries that jail their political opponents is noted.

Like the World Trade Center towers in the process of collapsing?

(I respect nations whose judicial systems hold criminals responsible.)

Fait accompli:

Americans are waking up to higher prices for their morning coffee, as President Donald Trump's tariffs on key exporting nations begin to take hold.
On Thursday, the Department of Labor released its Consumer Price Index for the month of August, which found that the annual inflation rate had accelerated to 2.9 percent from 2.7 percent in July. Among the revelations contained in the press release, coffee prices have risen by 20.9 percent over the past year, with instant and roasted costs up 20.1 percent and 21.7 percent, respectively.

It's amusing to watch Trump toadies contorting themselves to portray Americans paying bloated prices under Trump as a good thing.

Coffee prices are high globally. It isn't driven by Trump tariffs----it is because of extreme weather in places that produce a lot of coffee

After the government's (Pete Pete Buttigieg's) screwed up management of supply chain problems, coffee prices went up precipitously.

Do you not remember, or do you just not buy coffee?

And now, b/c of bad weather in S. America, the left has the audacity to blame coffee prices returning to Biden era levels on Trump?

Seriously?

I knew the left had little understanding of how markets work, but supply and demand have much more affect on prices than tariffs ever will.

I drink Dunkin Donuts Original Blend. At $12/12 ounces an 8 oz. cup costs 34 cents. Since the tariffs price has increased 50 percent.

In 2022, Bolsonaro lost to da Silva.

On 8 January 2023 a mob of Bolsonaro's goons stormed federal government buildings

The Suptreme Court blocked Bolsonaro from seeking office until 2030 for attempting to undermine the validity of the election through his unfounded claims of voter fraud, and for abusing his power by using government communication channels to both promote his campaign and to allege fraud.

Testimony from military officials showed that Bolsonaro had planned a self-coup with the military to keep himself in power.

In November 2024 he was indicted for multiple crimes related to the coup, and was found guilty.

Trump's tantrum because his authoritatian protégé was found criminally responsible in a court of law does not justify the blowhard's inflicting his tariff-bloated coffee prices on Americans.
