They don't have an incentive to do anything. With the complete breakup of the Republican Party (it was replaced by the Party of the Rump) there is nothing that they need to do to clean things up. Rump is gone in the very near future and with him so is the Party of the Rump. At Federal Level, there isn't enough of a Republican Party left to do anything. Sorry, but the current Federal so called Republicans won't be believed when they claim, "I never knew or supported him". In order to force the Democratic Party to clean it's act up, it's going to require the Republican Party to reestablish itself as the party of the people instead of the part of the Rich. Those days are gone when the Party of the Rump is gone. It's going to take a few years of heavy losses to the Democrats to wake up the Republican Party to rebuild itself. Then, and only then, it's going to take a few years of the Republican Party freezing out the Democratic Party to wake them up as well. But for the meantime, either starting in 2021 or 2025, those wacky ideas are going to be front and center.

I am going to go back to a John Birch Society Mantra from 1958 on this one. The way to try and destroy someone else is to claim they are Communists or Socialists. That was taken from the disgraced Senator McCarthy before the Senate got tired of his antics. The Democrats are not Socialists. They do have slightly more social programs than the extreme right wing right wants. Just like the Republicans are not Fascists although they have more Nationalist Ideas than the left has. Back in the 50s, we had solid leaders that didn't fall for this type of BS. Today, we have complete idiots that only look after themselves instead of "We the People".

Just stating fact. When Trump leaves office, he takes with him the Party of the Trump. There is little left of the National Republican Party left. There is going to be a rebuilding period where the Dems are going to get the top spots until the rebuilding is completed. The number of people leaving the Democratic people due to the extremes is probably similar to the number of people leaving the Republican party due to Donald Trump- sure they exist but the numbers probably won't affect anything.

As I watch a socialist lead the democrats today, with a Bernie Sanders groupie that recently tried to assassinate the entire GOP Congress at a charity baseball game, I can't help but think, McCarthy was right!
