So explain to me who hires illegals? One of my jobs was to recruit and hire new deputies; to be a state, county, city or local district employee one must provide proof of the ability to work in the United States. So, government workers are all legally employed.
One argument posted ad nauseam is that small business is the engine which moves our economy. It seems small business - restaurants, roofing companies, painting & other contractors, landscape companies, lumber yards and larger business, motels, auto dealarships, big farma, etc. hire mostly spanish speaking employees. I don't ask for green cards, but it's obvious these businesses aren't hiring the local native born American.
given that the major part of the population in the state of California are liberal, I'd hazard a guess that it's liberals who are hiring the illegals and paying them under the table. they then try to tax their way out of the shortfall this causes and the legitimate business then pack up and leave the state.. that's what I think, meanwhile you still have more and more and more illegals to educate with less and less and less money to do it..

Some years The People's Republic of California purchased an entire headland in Mendocino County from the long-time owner who had allowed the public to use the hiking trails it had.
Then they spent several more million to erect a fence to keep people from using the trails and another million or two on signs that read (yes, they maintain them annually):

Build better relationships with Mexico and get them to do the right thing for their people. Maybe they would want to stay. Figure out the reasons why Mexicans come here illegally, it really isn't that hard to come up with other solutions that would work.

But we ARE providing drivers' licenses to illegals in several states. We ARE providing food stamps and other relief aids to illegals in several states. We ARE providing free education to children of illegals in several states, often to the very noticable detriment of our own kids. We ARE providing government subsidized housing to illegals in several states. We ARE providing ongoing free healthcare to illegals in all 50 states.
That kind of thing I want a new law to be specific that it will be illegal to provide to illegals, while not denying illegals necessary food, water, and emergency medical care for the relatively short time it will take to deport them. In other words I don't want to be inhumane to anybody, but neither do I want it to be in any way profitable to come here illegally.
If we stop these perks, the sometimes very large families won't be coming in with the workers and overloading the system. And then if we can make it so expensive and unprofitable for employers to hire illegals, the workers won't come either.
And of course the government is looking the other way re illegal workers when it is politically expedient to do so, which it IS politically expedient in California. Until we come up with a comprehensive guest worker program allowing just the workers--not their families--to come across the border to work legally, and then the worker returns home immediately when the job ends, employers are going to accept illegals as employees when that is all that is available to them at a price they can afford.
At least if we make it unpleasant and unprofitable to bring families across the border, the illegal workers will go home to their families when the job is ended.

Paycheck withholding collects much of the federal tax from illegal workers, just as it does for legal workers.
The Internal Revenue Service doesn't track a worker's immigration status, yet many illegal immigrants fearful of deportation won't risk the government attention that will come from filing a return even if they might qualify for a refund. Economist William Ford of Middle Tennessee State University says there are no firm figures on how many such taxpayers there are.
"The real question is how many of them pay more than they owe. There are undoubtedly hundreds of thousands of people in that situation," Ford said.
But some illegal immigrants choose to file taxes and write a check come April 15, using an alternative to the Social Security number offered by the IRS so it can collect income tax from foreign workers.
"It's a mistake to think that no illegal immigrants pay taxes. They definitely do," said Martha Pantoja, who has been helping Hispanic immigrants this tax season as an IRS-certified volunteer tax preparer for the non-profit Nashville Wealth Building Coalition.

In addition to the taxes and SS they pay, they also provide cheap labor and from that cheap labor, we Americans enjoy products and services that cost far less than they would otherwise.

A new study from the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) examines the costs of education, health care and incarceration of illegal aliens, and concludes that the costs to Californians is $10.5 billion per year.
Among the key finding of the report are that the state's already struggling K-12 education system spends approximately $7.7 billion a year to school the children of illegal aliens who now constitute 15 percent of the student body. Another $1.4 billion of the taxpayers' money goes toward providing health care to illegal aliens and their families, the same amount that is spent incarcerating illegal aliens criminals.
"California's addiction to 'cheap' illegal alien labor is bankrupting the state and posing enormous burdens on the state's shrinking middle class tax base," stated Dan Stein, President of FAIR. "Most Californians, who have seen their taxes increase while public services deteriorate, already know the impact that mass illegal immigration is having on their communities, but even they may be shocked when they learn just how much of a drain illegal immigration has become.". . . .
