California is set to make its own brand of insulin — a lifesaving drug for the millions of Americans living with diabetes -- according to an announcement Gov. Gavin Newsom made Thursday on Twitter. It'll be the first state to do so.

I have no problem with it if it works. The beauty of having 50 state governments is that can each experiment and the rest can learn from their successes or failures.

50 million dollars for a sheep farm and insulin harvesting process?

What are they going to do with the wool and meat?
Who is going to take the glands and process out the insulin?

Why not just work with farmers already raising sheep livestock? (Like in Idaho)
And then work with meat processors to harvest the organs...(as well as other Jax products)
And woolen mills to process the wool...

Seems like a huge amount of money that a few phone calls and deals could have done much much cheaper.

Most insulin is made in a lab without a need for animal harvesting these days. They make it with e. coli and yeast.
