If it was about removing fraud, I'm would be all for it, but the track record from the right is just to cut benefits because of anecdotal evidence such as this. One person is abusing the system so we need to cut everyone off of welfare. That is the argument most often heard. It may not be your actual argument, but I assure you we have heard this argument made over and over again from many on the right.

Stigma is also needed so people do not become to comfortable on welfare. Our system is even worse as it penalizes people in some cases who want to work to get off it. The system is set up so you lose benefits in a series of cliffs when it comes to income, so say you get a $2k raise at your job, you may end up losing $5k in benefits.

Part of the reform needs to be scaling of the system to encourage people to get off it, but that goal is not in the interest of the government workers who run the programs.

Welfare should never, ever pay better than any job. That's part of the problem now, too many people find it more lucrative to receive public funds than to get off their butts and work.

My slut step granddaughter has been on welfare for years. She gets $5,000 a month. She could never make that by working. She "works" by spreading her legs at baby making parties and getting pregnant.

Government IS the problem. It is government that has given us a society where HALF of the people REFUSE to contribute just like the maggots highlighted in this thread. This guy that lives the "rat life" should be told that he gets NOTHING, NADA, ZIP until he gets a job. If that means he stands on the corner and starves, well then partner, it is his DECISION and his CHOICE. Freedom is like that. You can stand on the corner, or surf, or play video games all day long, BUT you get NOTHING until you take responsibility for yourself.

There isn't a conservative around that likes subsidies. I'm a rancher and they are just STUPID. I refuse them everytime I'm offered them because if you take them, then the government can tell you what to do. They're mostly payoffs from government to corporations that give political donations. You want to make a conservative happy, you can start with doing away with subsidies, PERIOD. But you won't, because subsidies are one of the ways that you BIG GOVERNMENT goofballs keep your finger in the festering sore of society.
