The legislation is scheduled for its first public hearing Tuesday as the Senate rushes to enact measures that Democratic lawmakers say would protect immigrants from the crackdown that the Republican president has promised.

The Democratic legislation, written by Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de Leon of Los Angeles, comes up for debate less than a week after Trump signed an order threatening to withdraw some federal grants from jurisdictions that bar officials from communicating with federal authorities about someone’s immigration status

This will sink this state if they do this, are they seriously that out of it. Taking in illegals etc will economically break the backs of this state but oh well give it to them if they're that stupid. Hopefully they can never get help with Federal funding either.

Let me know when its time to go shoot Cailfornians. The National Guard should be an interesting place to be. Doesn't make sense to send people that live there to do it. Should be strangers.

Then Californication, you will need to give up your right to vote in our elections. You have to be American to vote in American elections. Not only that, but you had better hope that your new population doesn't become anyone else's nightmare. If you become a mere entry port and one of your responsibilities kills one of us, your ass will be sued off. You'll have to tax your actual citizens to death to cover the liability, and just like France and Germany, you'll be begging your illegals to give you your home back.

Just part of the insanity of the left. They have zero control over local law enforcement.

This is the type of decision that the CA Constitution only allows voters to make at the polls. CA's constitution limits such weighty unilateral decisions by temporary positions held by their legislators.

And, I find it interesting that up until now, this page was availible, but suddenly it is not. Are people redacting the CA Constitution to find a loophole to escape the Initiative system just now?

Article 2, which addresses my exact legal points is missing. Curious. Have NEVER had trouble accessing it before...

Sorry California, you don't get to unlawfully redact the hard-won initiative system CA voters installed to govern themselves. Because in Article 2 it also discusses how any redactions of initiatives (including the initiatives on the initiative system!) must ALSO be done by the voters at the polls in another initiative to revoke. Such a grab of power from the voters amounts to not one iota less than treason.

Cyberfolks, please screen the previous linked page with one that will "suddenly show up" and look for unauthorized changes.

All I know is if they step out of the US they are going to screw themselves royally. But of course Trump will get blamed for it all.

It would pass anyway.

That does not excuse circumventing the law by legislators. They MAY NOT unilaterally act on such a weighty question. Herr Brown and his 4th Reicht in Sacramento don't have the power they wish they had. Only the voters can. Better get to writing up the petitions to get an initiative on the ballot. And BTW, we were told they'd smash Prop 8's terms. And they didn't. CA voters will surprise you. I'd be willing to bet the house that they wouldn't approve such an initiative...the only way it can become law there...

You don't know what you are talking about, like usual for the national socialist right wing.

While many of California’s largest cities — including Los Angeles, San Francisco and Sacramento — have so-called sanctuary policies that prohibit police from cooperating with immigration authorities, much of the state does not.

The economy of California is the largest in the United States. As of 2015, California's gross state product (GSP) is about $2.496 trillion. The state's GSP grew 4.1% in 2015.

And, we recently legalized recreational pot and expect around a billion a year in revenue.

I was saying it because it was a TRUE FACT, it was being a sarcastic response as to knowing California as liberal as they are , they would actually do something that stupid.
