We should have an extensive interstate network of bullet trains in this country, transporting everyone across the country. The fewer people are driving or flying the better for the environment and our wallets (modern, mass public transit). We also need to modernize our electric grid from burning coal to safe, clean nuclear. Until we do that we can't transition from gas-guzzling cars to electric vehicles/EVs.

The fossil fuel industry is often lobbying our politicians to keep us addicted to coal, oil, and gas. They don't care if they're destroying the environment or stopping human progress, as long as they make a profit $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. It's 2025 and we're still burning coal to generate our electricity. Assuming that's true, for the sake of argument, we can't improve our ability to build rails and trains? Spain is the leader in Europe and really in the world, in building extensive rail networks, including bullet trains. If Spain can do it, I believe the US can too. I'm of Spanish extraction, and I have visited my family there, and it's a modern country with a robust national, public transit system. The trains I rode in were beautiful, modern..etc. Amazing.

One of the problems the US has is local environmentalist groups that fight pipeline and train rail programs for every mile. They will find one "rare species" after another after another to delay progress trying to run out the clock. That is part of what has happened in California. Japan, Spain and other countries do not have that problem. Then there is finding and keeping laborers to build the track. And prisoners can't be used for railway labor so keeping the labor force necessary is very difficult.
