California facing higher $16 billion shortfall

The Rail to nowhere

Spirit flies roundtrip LAX to LAS for $125, so $16B would buy 128 million tickets

Liberals are the biggest fucking morons on the planet

That's the rail FROM nowhere! They should put it back up for a vote. When people voted for the rail last time, they really didn't think it through and believed it would go from downtown Union Station to Las Vegas. They had no idea that the rail would start in the middle of the desert and they would have to drive half way to Las Vegas to over pay for a train ticket to go the other half.

Yeah, let's spend billions on something that's impossible to protect from a terrorist attack and is a proven money pit at a time when we're dead broke. But let's NOT allow a pipeline to be built without government money that will not only create jobs but give us better insurance against trouble in the Middle East. Gotta love the rational thinking of progressives!

Yes putting oil into water and increasing pollution will definitely create jobs, not to mention we cant protect it from a terrorsts attack

If terrorists blow up a pipeline we shut it down...fix it and go on. If they blow up the tracks to a high speed rail line then hundreds of people will be killed or maimed. By the way, Star...I know you haven't gotten the memo on this yet but that part of the country is literally crisscrossed with pipelines already. Heard any news stories about leaks polluting the ground water? Gee...wonder why that is?

The pipeline wouldn't put oil into water or increase pollution, but you already knew that.

I see so according to you oil spilling into water does not put oil into water Or that emitting sulfur dioxide, Carbon, and Nitrogen dioxide is not increasing pollution. Perhaps the problem here is that you don't know anything

Oh so according to you trains cannot not stop themselves, and that oil doesn't leak out of a pipe that's been broken.

Why would the oil spill into the water? Furthermore, whether or not we build the pipeline has no bearing whatsoever on whether or not the oil gets sold and used so there is no net increase in the level of pollution.

Perhaps the problem here is that you don't know anything.

It seems like an article of faith that if the democrats spend money on a rail line that doesn't go anywhere, it will save lives and keep oil from the pipeline from spilling into water.

The rail line is now a shibboleth yet devoid of any real meaning.

The bizarre part is that liberals actually believe that the pretty new train is infrastructure. It isn't. It won't help anyone or anything in California. Here's a solution. Solves the whole problem.

A bullet train from California to Las Vegas will primarily benefit the casinos. That's the only possible entity that could benefit. It won't bring business to the state, it won't help Californians get jobs. Most of the train won't even be in California. The solution is to let the casinos set up a specal fund to pay for it.

this train was shot down in the last election......i believe they are talking about another one connecting SF and OC....

not sure if you remember harry but amtrak had a special line from anahiem to Vegas, advertsied as a route to work the coast and areas in between, it didn't make money, they still have a hybird of that and, well, amtrak needs subsidies to stay alive.

this hi speed rail is the project from hell;)

yup. every projection has been re-worked from the 'savings' between an airflight ticket and a rail ticket and the cost and time to completion...

when Gov. Christie was pressured to come up money to add to federal funds for a commuter rail tunnel from newark to NYC he said no, we could not afford it.

here? we are in worse shape than them, but brown wants to raise and taxes and has pledged money for the hi speed rail......what a joke.

Why would oil spill into the water? The same reason milk falls to the ground when you dump it on a table. Are you seriously this retarded?

Gov Christed lied and made shit up when he said the state could not afford the train
Independent Federal Report Confirms: Christie Lied To Kill ARC Tunnel | Streetsblog New York City
A new report from the Government Accountability Office, the independent and non-partisan investigation agency of the federal government,
The governor claimed, for example, that New Jersey would be paying 70 percent of the cost of building the first new rail tunnels under the Hudson in a century, which he argued was too high. The GAO found that the state would only shoulder 14.4 percent of the cost.
Christie repeatedly cited cost overruns, which he said would put the total price tag at up to $14 billion, as a reason to pull the plug on the project. But, reported the Times, “the range of estimates had in fact remained unchanged in the two years before he announced in 2010 that he was shutting down the project. And state transportation officials, the report says, had said the cost would be no more than $10 billion.”
Compare that to the value that ARC would have created for New Jersey. At the time, analysts predicted that the project would raise New Jersey property values by $18 billion and allow $50 billion in new wages to come back to the state from New York City. The GAO concluded that the ARC tunnel would have provided the region with economic, environmental and mobility benefits, though the report could not quantify to what extent.
So yes Christie is a joke

Ah yes...Mother Jones and ThinkProgress! What, nothing from Huffington Post? It's hard to have a rational discussion with someone who gets all of their information from sites that are so biased as to be worthless.

So according to you its hard to have i rational discussion with some one who posts facts.
I remember asking you and a dozen other people to provide one example of think progress lying. You failed
