Itās only āweirdā if you donāt understand the strategy. Tariffs arenāt meant to be permanent ā theyāre leverage. Trump used them to force better trade terms, level the playing field, and pressure foreign producers who were dumping subsidized goods into the U.S.This is weird. Why would he pull any of the insane tariffs that HE PUT IN PLACE?
Trump scraps tariffs on beef, coffee and tropical fruit in a push to lower grocery store prices
It's almost as if tariffs increase prices. But, as we're told, that doesn't happen.
Once the leverage is in place, you remove targeted tariffs to pass the savings on to consumers. Thatās not hypocrisy ā thatās how negotiation works.
And yes, tariffs can temporarily raise prices. Thatās the whole point: short-term pressure to get long-term trade concessions, and Biden kept most of Trumpās tariffs for four years straight, and prices still skyrocketed, so pretending ātariffs = inflationā is lazy economics.
