Not before usually making a lot of noise. A bad burnt smell could be a hundred things depending on the car, from a minor anoyance to major engine rebuild, which is why it helps to open the hood and locate the cause.

Of course looking under the hood helps but as much as cars have been sitting and not going anywhere...a dried out and slick belt would be my first guess.

Vehicles have to be driven on a regular basis. It helps them to stay in working order. Otherwise the battery goes dead and the computer forgets how your engine performs.

perhaps:

If you have sugar in your fuel tank then you should be able to smell that burn sugar. It will have that sweet caramel smell coming out from your exhaust pipe. You might even feel the smell inside your cabin.

I am on my way after my drinks

Check under the car and see if your catalytic conv or exhaust snagged a plastic bag

Then strip naked and run screaming down the street
