Burmese python news.

Super. Keep studying while the Python population explodes and eats every animal and bird in sight.
Then you better hope they keep studying...

"Because the Burmese python has spread throughout southern Florida, eradication of the population across the landscape is not possible with existing tools, the publication states. However, researchers at USGS and partner institutions are exploring potential novel techniques such as genetic biocontrol, that may one day provide an avenue towards larger-scale population suppression"

They're going to study them to death. This is what happens when scientists get involved in simple problems.

So called 'studies' that accomplish little or nothing that is important or useful to the general population is one of the ways the government wastes huge chunks of taxpayer resources.

Scientists have been studying our lakes for decades and still can't figure out why they are so polluted.
Just in.
Eight beaches are now closed due to dangerous blue-green algae blooms.

Great. Another recipe for failure. They've made the Everglades into a giant petri dish for their goofy experiments.

Somebody should open a python meat processing plant. Create an entire industry.... If you build it they will come. I have heard the properly cooked snake meat is actually delicious.

Allowing the snakes to get really big is good for the snake hunting sport and tourism.

Too much mercury in the meat. Besides, we gotta eat up those Asian carp first.

LOL by the time the "scientific community" can agree on a safe biocontrol technique, the pythons will have wiped out the Everglades wildlife and will be moving into suburban Florida.

Hell, that seems to be the plan. :omg:

"Biocontrol technique", my thought exactly. The problem (for them) is doing it "humanely". I would have no such problem.

The follow-up study will be how the Everglades lost all of their wildlife. Prolly a hundred million in taxpayer dollars to conclude it was the pythons.

How much is the state bounty on python skins?

For the right price shirtless good old boys in denim coveralls will find every python in the swamp
