Looks like steak fries are on their way back. Did some research and it turns out there are a lot of people that claim back in the old days when restaurants used this fries tasted better. I probably had some at some point and didn’t know that it was cooked in beef tallow :-) I use duck fat and it’s pretty good for that and other things.

I have some beef tallow that I canned several years ago -- not pressure canned but melted and poured in jars and screwed the lids on and let the cooling of the contents create the seal. A while ago, I opened up a jar that was questionably sealed, sniffed, and LOVED the smell! It reminded me of the donuts my dad used to make when he and my mom owned a little diner in a tiny Midwest farming town over 65 years ago! It occurred to me then that they must have used tallow in the deep fryer.

I was saving the tallow to make seed cakes for the feeders for wild birds, but I think I'll start using it for the little frying that I do. Delicious!

It's also good for making homemade skin care products.

Businesses Quit Being User-Friendly and Became Accountant-Friendly Instead

With the Vegan vegetable oil, french fries taste like rubber bands. If truth could be told instead of sold, the real reason that tasteless plant drool started being used is that it's cheaper.

I don't even remember the last time that I went to a Steak And Shake. I only remember that it was somewhere in Knoxville, TN.

God bless you always!!!

i can recall being just a lad while they did their thing , wish i paid more attention! ~S~

For pie crusts? Just substitute lard for whatever fat you use. If you make sure the lard is cold, it makes the crust flakier. Lots of information online about how to use lard.

Lard = flavor!

Do you have a food processor? Very easy pie crust. Tell me if you want a recipe.

Beef tallow? You would need a roto rooter to get the crap out of your arteries.

I have a dietary need that knocks out many veggies and fruits, and I also refrain from grains, legumes and nuts, thus my only safe foods are animals -- flesh, fat, dairy, eggs. I've eaten this way for about 10 years and my doctor never says squat.
