Breaking News. Plane crash in DC. Collided with either helicopter or drone over Potomac.

"Staffing Was ‘Not Normal’ at Reagan Airport Tower, According to F.A.A. Report

The report, reviewed by The New York Times, said that one controller was communicating with both helicopters and planes. Those jobs are typically assigned to two people, not one.

Staffing at the air traffic control tower at Ronald Reagan National Airport was “not normal for the time of day and volume of traffic,” according to an internal preliminary Federal Aviation Administration safety report about the collision that was reviewed by The New York Times.

The controller who was handling helicopters in the airport’s vicinity Wednesday night was also instructing planes that were landing and departing from its runways. Those jobs typically are assigned to two controllers, rather than one."

Anyone hear about runway incursions,?

Near misses......on the rise......wonder why.

Can ANY of you trump humpers just admit that trump 'immediately' bringing up DEI is embarrassing, not Presidential, and Irresponsible.

What a POS we have for a POTUS.

Of Course.
Also the most likely. The news is now reporting that the cause was the helicopter pilot.

The crash had nothing to do with the controllers.

Tend to agree with that. Everybody is saying that the staff at the tower of control was not adequate.

Big push under Buttigieg for DEI ATC candidates......under Obama, ATC training stopped for two years..... shortages and Obama caused.

IDK, why don’t you use your own critical thinking skills?

Without any of us knowing if anyone involved was white, gay, black, straight, trans or anything…. OR their experience and track record…. OR the circumstances of their employment….. DOES it make sense to say this accident was “based on DEI”?

DOES that make sense?

Use your critical thing skills here…..

Yes it makes sense for President Trump to think that but I'm just not sure whether or not he's jumping to conclusions.

Trump’s freshly appointed transportation secretary is doing a terrible job of inspiring confidence in his abilities, following the devastating aircraft collision at Ronald Reagan National airport near Washington, D.C.

Sean Duffy, the former reality TV star turned transportation secretary, was asked Thursday morning about how normal it was for military helicopters and other aircraft to get clearance to cross a potentially busy flight path.

“I don’t want to go into too much detail about the information we have from the FAA, but obviously it is not standard to have aircraft collide. I want to be clear on that.”

Duffy was quickly lambasted for stating the painfully obvious.

Who is saying that?

Staffing at the air traffic control tower at Ronald Reagan National Airport was “not normal for the time of day and volume of traffic,” according to an internal preliminary Federal Aviation Administration safety report about the collision that was reviewed by The New York Times.

Staffing issues at all airports.

Planes landing safely is literally the definition of competence in the field. And, statistically, they remain as safe as they’ve ever been.

Singular incidents of aircraft accidents in no way suggests there’s any sort of “DEI effect” in air traffic control.
~~~~~~
It appears that there was a shortage of ATC operators at the time of this accidents. Additionally its seems that DEI has also for at least the last four years DEI was the by-word in hiring and training ATC operators.
On the other hand, naval ships captained chosen according to DEI standards have found it also problematic.
This has been made apparent by the number of shipping accidents in both the Navy and commerce and more than likely the accident at DCA last evening causing the deaths of 67 souls.
So why not seek to investigate if DEI contributed to the accident?
Too much guessing and blaming going on right now from those not involved with the investigation. The only people that know 100% what caused it are not here to give info. It'll be interesting to see what data that black box recorders can give us. We know the plane was following what the ATC told them to do. The Blackhawk crew, as best I can tell, may have dropped elevation thinking the aircraft they were to "go behind" was the one that is seen passing in front seconds before the collision. That one they could visually see. The one behind them and coming in at an angle to line up with the runway was the one they couldn't visually see.
~~~~~~
Indeed. After 6 hours from your post, information coming out has revealed that the DCA control tower was understaffed by at least 6 qualified Air Traffic Controllers.
Has the narrative changed?
Give it 48 hours and get back to me...
The Washington D.C. air corridor is the most highly trafficked ais space in the U.S.
Staffing of the Control towers is important and especially in Hi trafficked areas with commercial, military and civilian aircraft flying in and out.

Using your critical thinking skills….. wouldn’t YOU say it’s jumping to conclusions to say this accident was a result of DEI policy when we don’t know anything about the staff involved, their credentials, their experience or even the circumstances of the accident?

Isn’t that literally the definition of jumping to a conclusion?
