This really isn't anything Trump did. This approval was quietly done by Obama before Trump took office so the report is giving Trump credit for something he didn't do. What's more significant is the five year extension of banning drilling in the Arctic and other oil rich areas that obama added at the same time. If Trump can reverse that and the drilling bans off the Pacific coast we can drive the price of energy way down and free up consumer spending and then really unleash economic potential here.
That energy independence thing is mainly a ruse. The prices are contingent upon global supplies.
