Most importantly, the wall pays for itself, as the costs of illegal immigration are enormous.

Everyone knows Trump did absolutely everything he could to fulfill that campaign promise and the Dems fought him and the media called him a racist for it. He finally figured out how to pay for it, and built large new sections of wall and reinforced hundreds of miles of border.

No he can't, hahahah. He can't just shut down the border using his powers as president. The law allows anyone to come to the border to seek asylum regardless of the number. That's why they need this bill, in order to shut the border down once 5,000 migrants a day have showed up over 7 consecutive days, or 8500 in one day. It also allows for much stricter screening, no more catch and release. All this can end right now, but the republicans don't want it, they need their "open borders" talking points to keeping going ad infinitum for idiot republicans to feed on.

Claiming asylum is allowed under the law. A president cannot claim he wants to close the border because too many ppl are claiming asylum. If the bar was so low for the president to enact such a move it would have been done by Trump long ago, and we all know it would only be temporary anyway.
