Thoughts from an Independent:
It amazes me how many half-truths and lies are told on this site by both sides. Neither red or blue states fit the descriptions the other side says about them. Examples:
I was in Nashville TN a few months ago to visit a former classmate from my teen years. We spent some time at Riverfront Park and the Railway Museum. The stories I read here from Liberals about gun toting, braindead rednecks, rampant pollution, and underfunded city services were just plain wrong. I found the people friendly and well spoken, the streets clean and in decent repair, and the city as a whole to be quite charming.
I was in San Francisco last week closing an agreement with a small medical clinic who had hired my company to do their bookkeeping and insurance billing. The stories I read here from Conservatives about people moving out in droves, illegal immigrants committing widespread crimes, and chronic homelessness was equally wrong. Our cable car trip was uneventful, Golden Gate Park was beautiful and well cared for, and our music event at the Greek Theatre at the Berkely campus was charming.
Both cities have their respective problems, of course, but both are quite livable, and both offer a wide variety of educational, business, and cultural opportunities. Maybe it's time for conservatives and liberals to admit they're not so very different after all.
