Imho, the amount of money we are spending ( even before the third carrier arrives) could be put to much better uses. In fact, since the money is all borrowed, we might even end our dependence on eternal war and endless debt by stopping the mass murder?

Not going to argue that point because it's accurate.... I'm only going to point out that it's not the ability that stops us but the moral construct.

We ended Japan totally.... Nobody likes the way it was done. Tough shit. That can be done again and without nukes.

If the American military went in and heartlessly tore down all the infrastructure across the Iranian landscape the missiles would suddenly stop flying because there wouldn't be anybody to send them. They won't do that. Sometimes however maybe they should.

My concern is looking at Iran from a narrow perspective. We may be needing those boots elsewhere.

When Japan saw us as a threat to their access to oil reserves in Southeast Asia, they bombed Pearl Harbor.
China now relies on imports for 70% of its oil. After being cut off from Venezuela, with our intervention in Iran there is always the possibility of things growing bigger.
