In a Republic, actually
For nearly a half-century the United States has squabbled with Iran's Islamic Republic but the conflict has largely been left in the shadows, with US policymakers believing, often reluctantly, that diplomacy was preferable.

“Trump's order of strikes on Iran's nuclear sites, the United States -- like Israel, which encouraged him -- has brought the conflict into the open, and the consequences may not be clear for some time to come.”

Trump long ago abandoned diplomacy, never giving it a chance.

The US’s unwarranted, meritless attack is proof of that.

Trump tried diplomacy, the Ayotollah refused negotiations. So Trump reverted to Teddy Roosevelt’s diplomacy “speak softly and carry a big stick”. Khameini has now been shown the stick, so now we will see if he is wise enough to come to the negotiation table now. I have no faith he will.

Trump did not try diplomacy as it is a unknown consept to him.

Donald Trump had said Thursday that he would decide within two weeks whether to get involved in Israel’s war with Tehran. In the end, it took just days.

he just order bombs away if they did not capitulate in his time frame he set.

Trump will have blood on his hands.

So what would be Irans response and it would be intresting. .

Basically he bombed a country that was not a war with the US but had noly threatened Isreal.

They do not have to attack American soil but how man Americans are out of the country?

Their will be blood on his hands.

Trump gave Iran 60 days.

Sit

Trump has no idea what he is doing, the people he has handpicked to advise him are all fools or lackey's, usually both, and the United States is in serious trouble, and some people, like myself, have been saying so all along.

I knew this was coming, and it will get worse, much worse.

Be prepared, America, to feel some pain.

Not much of a deal maker, is he?

15th post
My concern would be if the US was not threatened directly then how could Trump order a strike against a country that we are not at war with.

Putin is ready to start arming Iran

which puts this in the category of a proxy war

Thus by Trumps shooting his wad to soon, he has created a proxy war where other will die and eventually some americans who happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Trump wants to be a war president but its only a proxy war.

He said 60 days but bombed within 2 days. after issuing his 60 day warning.

So he basically lied
You are ignorant, he gave them 14 days after giving them time to come to the table many, many, times. Before Trump, America tried to negotiate with them but they lied over and over. Meanwhile, they shot thousands of missiles at Israel. Time is more than up for the Ayatolla and the Mullahs.

Kilroy sits there.. totally flummoxed

Israel and the US are in a dilemma. They can't effect regime change, their declared goal, unless they commit troops, and neither can do this. Iran is not Iraq: It is bigger in size and population centres, it has a capable army, and it is not isolated like Saddam's Iraq.

Collapse from the inside didn't happen despite many US attempts. Still the case. Mossad and MEK cells operating in Iran have no links to the political and military elite. Despite its fractious politics, the Islamic Republic's power architecture is based on solid institutions.

Assad's fall was due to the army, an important institution, handing Syria to Jolani. It took Syria more than 10 years of civil war and severe sanctions for the army to become ineffectual and corrupt. Won't happen with the IRGC, not in ten, not in 20 years. Iran is not Syria.

Another reason Iran is not Syria is that the power architecture in Syria was and still vertical, severe the link between the head and the rest and everything falls apart. In Iran, the power architecture is more horizontal. The supreme leader is the CEO of the Islamic Republic.

So really, Israel and the US, after terminating the JCPOA, and pulverizing possible talks and a deal, have no options left. Nothing, nada. Terminating the JCPOA was a stupid move. Trump and the US are now into a corner painted by Netanyahu, with no options left.

What we assumed for Syria is the same for Libya too. Vertical power architectures are very fragile and vulnerable to regime change ops. Iran is not in this zone.

Iran is not Afghanistan. In Afghanistan, the US relied on a militia inside the country to topple the Talibans. The US has no such option in Iran. Spies, yes, provocateurs, yes, but no organized army who can play proxy to US military and political aspirations in Iran.

There is not one regime change op the US did previously that can apply to Iran. Yet Netanyahu was able to convince the US that this was possible. Trump is surrounded by incompetent people who listen to a genocidaire wanting to drag the US in an uncertain war.
