My old man and my uncles would actually do dumb crap like that; how they managed to live as long as they did is a constant source of amazement to my siblings and cousins. The WW II generation was half nuts. They scared the crap out of us every time went camping or hunting, or even a long car trip to granma's house.. Anybody old enough to remember how wide cars were in the 50's and 60's and how narrow two lane highways were before interstates and divided highways were common knows what I mean.
