applied to all slaves, both those legally in the country and those illegally in the country.
The 14th amendment made no distinction between those legally here, and those illegally here, and thus applied to both those that legally entered the country and those that illegally entered the country.

And if that was their intent when they wrote it in the 1800's, that is still the biding intent today.

That's the current and longstanding legal definition, which is what laws go by.

It's no different than if the law says shall be fined $500,
Even if the lawmakers intended for the fine to be optional.
The judge has to interpret shall by the legal definition of shall.

The Supreme Court will rule on what the law is, not what woke and/or self-advantaging lawyers interpret the law as being. I doubt you have any legal training in original intent nor do I. But I have studied it, taken some course work on it. Have you? I hope the Supreme Court justices have.
