Billions of Dollars still being wasted on Mars Probes and, back to the Moon missions. This is all insanity!

We did gain much technology from going to the moon the first time. But lets remember, that while we were at it the Japanese were improving their industries and by the time the Arab oil embargo came around, less than a year after our last moon landing, the Japanese began to capture our auto market.
That's what happens when our minds goes off in the wrong direction. We should have learned a valuable lesson. The space program is valuable for military and national security purposes, not for outer space exploration.

Do you realize all the advances that have come from the space program?
Anything that millions of dollars is pumped into, will has spinoff advances. This money is better spent on increasing police funding, the coronavirus, and infrastructure.

Why would you give money to the Corona Virus? They're just gonna spend it on proteins and RNA.

I am looking forward to the Webb Space Telescope. I recall the Hubble's initial "eyesight" problem, hopeful things will go well this time around.

When are we as Americans going to wake up and stop wasting money on these Mars Probes and rovers, and now they are talking about going back to that skyless dead rock the Moon. When are we going to start spending money here on Earth to help humans with , homes, food for the unemployed. Let us stop wasting money on these pie in the sky Mars, and Moon missions.?! Your thoughts.

Actually no, not Tang.

I think the “Man to the Moon” program was complete madness. “Splendid madness” some will say, but still madness based on a false purpose of recapturing and re-affirming our leadership against the Soviets. A giant P.R. campaign cooked up by Kennedy and serving our MIC in particular.

The proof it was economically absurd Is that all these decades after the final Apollo Mission we still have not returned a man to the moon — not even once. Why would we? After the 1492 “discovery” of America there were constant and repetitive return voyages — for gold, silver, furs, whale oil, for colonial expansion, new crops, and soon the sought after trade with the East. That all came at great risk and cost, but at least made economic sense. It changed the world dramatically, but in doing so of course brought problems like the commercial slavery so necessary for plantation economies.

All the useful offshoots of Apollo would have come anyway, from GPS to faster and smaller computers to cellphone technology. Space exploration today can be done with robots far more cheaply and safely than with men. Granted, some space research is important to humanity as a whole, and we are better able to put men and women into space today. But space programs should serve real economic purposes. Space resources and extraterrestrial objects should be defined as international and not just carved up into national or corporate property. Nor should space be weaponized to help wage war on earth.

You're naive if you think space won't eventually become just another battle ground between the different human tribes on Earth. ...

1. More and more, it's "private industry" venturing into space. This last trip to the ISS, was done by Elon Musk's Space-X. NASA only provided the launch pad and recovery. Private industry is going into space at far less cost than NASA has done.
2. This "small" blue/green/brown planet has finite resources and the plan via the private industries venturing into space, is to mine resources from our celestial neighbors. The Moon is a part of that mining plan. China actually has a fleet of rockets prepared, with the intention of doing just that, getting to the Moon and Mars for mining. The moons orbiting the other planets in our solar system are also targets for resources.
3. Sooner or later (most likely later), this planet will be unable to sustain the population we have, or will get hit with an asteroid large enough to wipe everything out and be large enough to not be able to "nudge" out of the way.
4. Rather than just sitting here on this rock and eventually have our species just become extinct or the planet be wiped out, we must find a way to expand outward and scientists, paid by the taxpayers, are continually researching ways to not only attain the speed of light, but work around it, to get to exo-planets out there.
5. There will "always" be poor on this planet. Hell, the poor in other countries wish they were the poor here. The poor here, have cellphones, a roof over their heads, appliances, food on the table, an education, transportation and heat in the winter. I've been all over this planet and I can definitely say that our people are better-off than most people in third-world nations.
6. Taking away all the funding for research would only doom our species in the long term.

FALSE! The money could be spent on medical care for those afflicted, in home or in hospitals, ventilators, hydroxychloriquine, zinc, vaccine research, and overtime pay for doctors and researchers. And that's just off the top of my head as a layman. Those in the medical field could probably cite many more things.

Why is space a waste? You know we spend Trillions of dollars a year right?

As I said this whole insane idea that we have to go back to the Moon, and send humans to Mars is all insanity, and absurdity. All those billions spent on the Moon mission, and now there is talk about sending humans to Mars. This Mars mission absurdity, would also be a suicide mission, as once you land on Mars, you would become to heavy to lift off for the return mission back to Earth. Moreover, the mission would expose the astronauts to deadly radiation, and it would take to long to get there. And the cost would be in the billions of dollars. To many risks, to much money. to be spent. And Mars is just to far.

There are better uses for our space budget than going to Mars. The moon base? Well, there are some benefits to that but they are limited. Launching from the moon with very little gravity can be done for a fraction of what it costs on Earth. Now; Getting what you want to launch to the moon is going to be costly. However, if you use the correct strategy, you can send a few massive loads to the moon and have dozens and dozens of secondary launches from the lesser gravity.

A few things we can dispense with (or at least should):
  • It should be a worldwide effort. The nationalistic "it must be an American enterprise" is crazy and costly.
  • It should be part of a larger strategy with clearly defined goals. If you want to study comets and asteroids; great... If you want to go to Mars, great. But don't just hit the brakes when you get to the moon and say, "We're done"
  • It should be done clearly to further man's presence in Space. Permanent occupation to study long term (I mean like a decade) affects of weightlessness. The lessons learned can be used when we go to Mars--something we don't need to do but unquestionably mankind's timeline is marked by exploration.

look at what technology and new products are available in the USA from what was learned in the Moon exloration, changed millions of ways business and its products are prodeuced, I am an Operations manager it is amazing what scince and our young peples minds have learned, Mars is a whole new adventure with new worlds and scientist to learn to help Ameerica be strong, as usual this is blamed by Democtaes as Trumps fault but the moon program started by Kennedy and My Company made the wheels and tires on the first moon rover and the Marian craft that landed and wll land in the next two months, Walmarts Plastic pallets are made from the moons technology learned

Captured? The market was abandoned to foreign industries by thoughtless American automakers who refused to recognize they were making the wrong products with unacceptably poor quality.

Technological advancements from space exploration are enormous. If we discontinued competition with China and Russia we are giving them a huge advantage.

The Japanese and German industries were rebuilt with Murican tax dollars.

How many of these do you use in your daily life? According to you, they're a waste of money. Stop using them.

More broken windows...Those things may well have been invented without man going to the moon.

Economic fallacies don't become factual because you approve of the gubmint program.

An asteroid, super nova, gamma ray burst, pandemic, nuclear holocaust, and many other things that could wipe out the human race. Being a one planet species is dangerous and monumentally stupid.

Earth is doomed, in fact the entire solar system is doomed, as such we learn to move or we die.

Really it is that simple
