There are no shortages. The issue is hedge funds running the prices up just because they can. Make it like it used to be where only end users bid on oil and prices fall since need is being met.

Prices in my state; Washington, because our Biden-clone governor Inslee and his socialist-fascist supporters imposed a "carbon tax" which added another $0.50 to our gas prices at the start of this year (on top of already excessive state taxes). We are now in the range $5.00 +/- a dime or so, per gallon.

We have 2-3 refineries in our state BTW.

In the case of my states "carbon tax" it is levied against businesses that use petroleum and they pass that on to customers/consumers.

My point is that it's largely Federal and State taxes that cause gasoline to cost what it does. And why the cost varies from state to state, or USA vs Canada.

Production and market costs are already competitive enough to keep profit margins low. If Joe mandates a retail price limit than producers will likely end production rather than take financial loss. This would greatly reduce supply and that would be more devastating than the current situation.
