At the end of the day, the pick of VP doesn't affect the election all that much. Even if it did, Biden will win California anyway so Kamala's home state is inconsequential. It sounds like she can use her mixed race status as an advantage similar to Obama.

In her case, the Black side of her heritage makes her a Black female candidate to energize minority voters to rally and promote her, if for no other reason than to TROLL the opposing side! That will get more voters to the polls, the media will love this because they make more money off clickbait and ads the more hype escalates back and forth in the media. Every headline about "race" will generate clickbait and ad revenue, so everyone should love this even if they hate it.

As for the white lineage on her mother's side, if it's true her grandmother was a Irish slaveowner in Jamaica, that can be used to push for white guilt Reparations owed to black descendants of freed slaves never receiving their 40 acres and a mule.

So Harris could argue for both, both owing restitution as part of the white privileged class that benefited from slavery; and as representative of the black generations denied equal civil rights if their family lineages were destroyed by genocide and their families were treated as property and not allowed to own property equally.
