All you need is a Military Grid map, a compass, a protractor, and flashlight. That's not even the issue here because smoke from a crash would tip off farmers to the crash site for over 100 miles in any direction.

The fact is, there is never supposed to be a situation where the location of that aircraft isn't monitored. The GPS system on that aircraft will find it's location within 100 meters anywhere on the planet.
