Afghanistan vet says 'gender advisers' nothing more than 'liberal pet projects'

President Joe Biden's nominee for the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff told the Senate "gender advisers" for combat troops are critical to the United States' success, a position some veterans say is nothing more than a left-wing initiative that distracts from the military's core duties.

The revelation came during a Dec. 8 exchange with Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D., N.H.), who asked how Adm. Christopher Grady intends to implement "women, peace, and security" legislation within the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

"The role of a gender adviser is a way to attack a very significant issue, and if confirmed, I look forward to leveraging those advisers who can make me think better and smarter about the issues that you raise," Grady said. "So I look forward to, if confirmed, understanding that ecosystem and helping advance that cause going forward again."

The Women, Peace, and Security Act of 2017 required the Department of Defense to require training in "security initiatives that specifically addresses the importance of meaningful participation by women" and to develop "effective strategies and best practices for ensuring meaningful participation by women."

Grady's answer drew outrage from veterans such as Jason Church, who earned a Purple Heart when serving in Afghanistan. Church told the Washington Free Beacon that "gender advisers" are nothing more than "liberal pet projects" to score points with Democratic lawmakers.

"When someone nominated to be the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff says something like this, it tells me top brass is aligned with radical political elements in the country," he said. "You have people's lives on the line. These positions aren't about how to communicate with Afghan women, we have a diplomatic corps for that."

A couple of years after enlisting in the US Army, while stationed at Ft. Hood in a combat engineer battalion, some of the guys in the barracks caught on one of our medics was gay. They got together one night, entered the guy's room and beat him senseless. This was around 1993. While I knew nothing about their plans to attack the medic, I felt guilty for many years, in hindsight, and felt sorry for the guy; he was a decent dude and to my knowledge never came on to fellow soldiers or "flamed out" in public.

While I do not agree with or condone such savagery against any fellow soldier—certainly not someone who could one day be saving my ass on the battlefield in particular—I understand why soldiers used to take such matters into their own hands. I was young and green back then but again, in distant hindsight, I recognize the need to protect unit cohesion at all times—no more so than when back in battalion area, before deployment.

One could say that the tendency of units to sort such perversions out on their own, in defense of their battle readiness, was justified. Myself, I went into the Army in 1991 and ETS'd for the last time a couple of years ago. This is pertinent to the conversation because by the time I got out for good I hardy even recognized what unit fitness or readiness was supposed to be anymore. Rather than the Army hammering soldiers into shape to fit its ever-changing paradigm, the Army had instead changed itself to fit progressive social justice and woke ideological narratives; unit readiness and fitness were left far behind in the dust, most of us "Old Heads" choking on it.

Much of the modern standing military force has become a Woke joke. Sometimes, even at nearly fifty years of age I want to go back in. And then I read about shit like this. Almost makes me want to join the French Foreign Legion—but that's a much younger man's game. What a hell of day we've reached when certain units of the French military look more exciting than ours.

There's a gay medic and you aren't there by choice? I can't say I blame the guys.

Communist, isn't it? I took French in high school etc. It's a very precise literary language in worldwide use good for specifying exactly what you mean. But I just gag on all the wine culture crap that goes along with it. As if you're that sober and you're going to go to war for a bunch of winos and sugar daddies in the French countryside like they'll earn a citizenship there or something. The French Foreign Legion has to exist, but I don't hear or read about it anywhere in the MSM, and I don't follow VFW or American Legion crap either.
