Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccinations for Kids 5-11 Can Begin Across U.S.​

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky gave her nod of approval on Tuesday, allowing shots to be administered.

COVID-19 vaccinations for 5-11-year-olds can begin across the country following the nod of approval from the head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

CDC Director Rochelle Walensky on Tuesday night endorsed recommendations from the agency's vaccine committee for the Pfizer shot, which is one-third of the adult dosage, for children ages 5-11.

"We know millions of parents are eager to get their children vaccinated and with this decision, we now have recommended that about 28 million children receive a COVID-19 vaccine," Walensky said in a statement. "As a mom, I encourage parents with questions to talk to their pediatrician, school nurse or local pharmacist to learn more about the vaccine and the importance of getting their children vaccinated."

The Biden administration says it has secured enough doses for all 28 million children in the age group.
