There's no reason for oil transport to be safe either by train or by pipeline ... if the companies are spending money to keep the systems' maintenance up ... no excuses for any of this unless profit comes before people ... this is the PG&E approach, let the equipment go to shit while keeping share prices up ...

Oil spills are bad but the world runs on fossil fuel and there is no substitute on the horizon. Lefties love to whine about oil disasters but nobody seemed bothered when over 8,000 merchant ships were sunk in WW2 and about 1,000 military ships and planes. There is a stretch of the Pacific ocean off the Philippines called "iron bottom sound" because of all the ships sunk. They all spilled their oil and haz-mat junk and yet the oceans survived. Cities and factories and God knows what else were ruined and the world survived. Fossil fuel has become an issue mostly used by (hypocrite) anti-American lefties to exert political pressure and extortion. Pop astronomer turned environmentalist, Carl Sagan, predicted the literal end of the world if Saddam lit off the oil fields in Iraq during the Gulf War. He did and the world barely burped.
