Best Metal & Rock Bands Throughout Time

I liked your post, even though I really hate it. :D

LOL!

I've known a few other people who agreed with me about the Stones. The Beatles, yes. Led Zepplin, yes. Hendrix, sure. The Stones, though, just weren't that good.

I feel the same way about other bands given greater status than I think they deserve. Kiss is a good example, they had a gimmick but were never a particularly good band. Nirvana is a more modern example; if Cobain hadn't killed himself I don't know that he would be considered the musical genius I've seen him described as today.

I don't hate the Stones. I love the Sundays remake of Wild Horses. I just think they were a good band that don't deserve to be called great.

No way, the Stones have been influential, and they have longevity on their side as well. They have a ton of good tunes, and all were very talented IMO. To compare the Stones to Kiss is just . . . sacrilege! :D

I was only comparing them in that I think both are overrated. I think the Stones were better and more influential. :)

I love Opeth. Although they've gotten away from the metal side of their music of late, they did a great job mixing styles.

Yeah. Generally when I think Opeth, I'm thinking of their music from Orchid all the way through the end of Ghost Reveries.

Wow, folks are posting stuff I and my cohorts play at gigs most Friday and Saturday nights. Not "metal" just really good stuff. Speaking of which. UM is one of the best bands currently out there. They will melt the faces off any hardcore "metal" fan. I have seen them before. Nobody can touch them for rhythmic massiveness. Notice in this song the double kick is so tasteful and so effective on the outro.

See you at the Vibes in Bridgeport later in the week!

Well to be fair, the title is Best Metal AND Rock Bands Throughout Time. :D Also, a lot of those bands were very influential on metal as well.

But okay, how do you feel about System of a Down? I really like their unique sound. They are quite political too. I don't necessarily always agree with ALL of their views, but I still enjoy some of their songs.

I have never been able to decide if SoaD was a band that could have been great if they had skipped some of the intentional silliness and weirdness in their music, or if they were just an OK band whose good parts seemed better in comparison to the silly parts.

I like Otep, not Opeth.

I can listen to Otep, but not a huge fan. Although I do often enjoy female metal singers, Otep just doesn't do it for me.

Fear of God (an old 90s band), Madder Mortem, Kittie, Walls of Jericho, Abnormality, those are all female-fronted metal bands I listen to. There are some others who have both female and male singers, like Deadlock or The Animal in Me that are good, too.

This was the beginning of really enjoying female metal singers for me :

I don't really enjoy female metal singers, which is odd considering I'm female.

They're definitely a bit of an oddity. I don't mind them every now and then, however. lol

I'm not sure what you mean by melting faces. This song doesn't do it for me, but it's far from terrible; they certainly seem talented enough, just not a style I particularly enjoy. A lot better than some, though.

I guess it's okay. Still not my preference though. :)

Right, they aren't the best band, but they do have an interesting and unique sound, that's for sure. :)
