I must not be that boring. After all you and several others take the time to stalk me all over these forums.

You've got a crush on me, don't you.

The only ones I hear say that are those who, through poor life choices, can't afford to retire comfortably.....Mostly they are guys that had multiple marriages. Those of medium means can't build wealth exchanging families every 10-15 years.

About the only one I know that I think is on the level is a former classmate that became a Zoologist and works for the Smithsonian (National Zoo) research center in my AO. He said he will stay there (lives on site with his wife) till he dies or they run him off.

He said he mostly works with the big cats. LOL....I asked him if he was a "big cat wrangler" (a real .gov job there that was advertised some years ago) and he said no but he may as well be.
Yes I know guys who keep working because they have to due to bad divorces etc. I have a friend who is around 75 and works 50 hours a week doing home remodels. He's a genius builder and has done some great work for me but lost a fortune on bad real estate investments. But others have plenty of money they just want feel productive and they need the social interaction.

There's also volunteering.

Volunteers are ALWAYS needed at:

hospitals
nursing homes
retirement centers
kids hospitals
animal shelters
etc......

The world is a big place that can keep you busy if you want.
You just have to go look to see whats out there for you.

You get into a nursing home as a volunteer? You may never get back out, old timer. Would I be able to steal Oxy or even Tramadol?

LOL
I'm sure you could "steal" some.

I get Tramadol from my Dr. for my neuropathy.
Doesn't last long. Have to take at least 3 of them to keep me upright just to go shopping for a couple of hours.

If somebody told me in my 20s I could get a good paying job working with cats all day in some aspect..........I'd have jumped on it.

I sold my business and retired a couple of years ago. I'm now 57 and bored almost to tears. Thinking of starting a new biz.
Owning a business is a lifestyle choice....kinda like being married.

It's either a new lifestyle choice or forget it. (Sorry)

Old life is gone....gonna have to make a new one with what you got. Because if you try to regain what's lost....it NEVER works out.

Don't start playing stock market guru either with your retirement portfolio. You ain't got the stones for it either and you will just end up losing your butt.

Angel investing is like one in ten or one in 14 of hitting a good lick...the rest just kinda lag and do nothing. It's not any better than just an index fund but a lot more work. But you got time.

I got my projects courtesy of my wife

Today was a freezer and water filter issues. (Not fun because I hate plumbing)

I didn't ever really want to stop working. I would go tomorrow if I had a job. I didn't mind it even with all the frustrations and headaches, cussing and fussing and stupid apprentices. GCs who were just dumb bullies. Owner agents who knew what they were doing were great....but then the visitors from the owner would come by and make a mess of the project moving stuff. LOL.

But I got forced into it. Joints went bad and that was that. No more red iron or ladder climbing all day.

So....I do what I can and that's it.. and it's likely more than I should but idgaf.

I let the pro's handle my investments. I mostly tinker with my cars or or the house. No wife, so no ready made chore list.

My wife does quite a bit of volunteering. Mostly with veteran's groups and an assisted living facility. As I still work more than full time, my time to volunteer is very limited.
