Barges stranded as Mississippi River water levels reach Critical low

Major shipping delays and backlog of vessels after region experiences lack of rainfall in recent weeks
10/14/2022

The water in the Mississippi River has dropped so low that barges are getting stuck, leading to expensive dredging and at least one recent traffic jam of more than 2,000 vessels backed up.

The Mississippi River Basin produces nearly all – 92% – of US agricultural exports, and 78% of the global exports of feed grains and soybeans. The recent drought has dropped water levels to alarmingly low levels that are causing shipping delays, and seeing the costs of alternative transport, such as rail, rise..."

Barges hit Bottom of Mississippi River as water levels approach Historic Low

Supply chain concerns are once again on the rise across the United States, but the cause and solution to the issue are one and the same: the weather.

The supply chain across the nation's heartland is facing significant constraints that could have far-reaching consequences into the winter, starting with farmers in the Plains and expanding all the way to the overall economy of the United States.

Exacerbating the problem are the low water levels of the Mississippi River, a crucial waterway for commerce that has seen a steady decline in its flow in recent months due to a lack of rain. A river gauge at Osceola, Arkansas, 35 miles north of Memphis, Tennessee, reported a water level of 8.8 feet below what is considered ‘low stage’ on Wednesday, Oct. 12, the fourth-lowest water level at the location since record-keeping began in 1927.

Why doesn't the Biden Army Corps of Engineers allow more the water upstream to flow to the Mississippi?

The Mississippi isn't canalized, but many of the tributaries are.

So we can't blame Biden?
Biden is only being blamed for the stuff his boss caused to happen. The Tan Messiah is enjoying his 3rd term and may complete his desire to destroy this country that he hates.

and is the one begging for increased global oil production.
Because trump signed OPEC+ in April 2020, a two year deal, ending May 2022, to cut, YES CUT, oil production. Why is this OIL cut, YES CUT, by OPEC bidens fault?

All biden is doing is asking OPEC to increase production, well, because the pandemic is over and demand is rising.
So, doesn't it make sense for OPEC to ramp up oil production back before the trump signed OPEC+ deal.

Yea, I wouldn't expect you to understand.

Biden begged them, begged them.

And then Biden begged them to wait until after the midterms to announce production cuts.

This mess is 100% on Biden in spite of your TDS.

Lake Erie is way down also. Was supposed to run a charter on one boat yesterday. Got it all ready to go. Then couldn't get it out of the dock. It was stuck in the mud. Had rush to get another boat ready and could not get it ready in time. Had to get a special opening from the draw bridge. Big freaking pain in my ass. Gunna effect my night fishing trips also. This time of year the walleye go in real shallow at night and go on feeding frenzy. Most exciting fishing of the year. Not uncommon to get a 3 or 4 man limit in 20 minutes to half hour not to mention they are shallow and close to the bank. This means very little travel time. We can offer these trips much cheaper. Cheaper and fastest bite that can be experienced. Went to scout some of the normal spots. Can't get my boat in there right now. Got some stuff to figure out in a hurry.

CA must have a long straw. :laughing0301:

I thought more heat led to more flooding?

Is AGW broken?

Trump got them to do what he wanted, Biden can't do the same?

Is Biden stupid or something?
