Keystone pipeline could transport water instead of OIL

I don't think it would be very cost effective to try and convert the Keystone Pipeline to water. The oil that has flowed through it has contaminate it, and the amount of money it would take to clean it enough to transport water would cost... A LOT of money and time.

I’m not convinced that the pipeline is unsuited to pump water. Oil and water do not mix. There may be residual oil in the beginning, but I am sure this oil can be skimmed off. Over a short period of time the oil will be removed and all you get from that time forward is “water”.

The whole reason the pipeline was shut down, was because of it contaminating the local water supply, especially when it would leak.

Water and steel make rust so it makes more sense to pipe water through plastic. Say that's done. Presuming you've asked the States and nations involved permission to permanently borrow a bit of their water in an ongoing manner and pipe it through their land,.. now you've got this big puddle of non potable, evaporating water nearby with algae beginning to grow in it like crazy,..

What have you actually gained relative to simply distilling local sea water as needed for example? Less salt to worry about disposing of? Las Vegas was built on the assumption that shear arrogance could somehow beat back Mother Nature. Never has nor will. One can't permanently "win" by simply stealing natural resources from one's neighbors.

For those really determined to pipe and pump:
In 2013 large freshwater aquifers were discovered under continental shelves off Australia, China, North America and South Africa. They contain an estimated half a million cubic kilometers of "low salinity" water that could be economically processed into potable water. The reserves formed when ocean levels were lower and rainwater made its way into the ground in land areas that were not submerged until the ice age ended 20,000 years ago. The volume is estimated to be 100 times the amount of water extracted from other aquifers since 1900.

Maptitude Map: Existing and Keystone Pipelines (caliper.com)

The United States is experiencing the worst drought ever recorded. The west coast is so dry that forest fires are becoming the norm, not the exception. The US West Prepares for Possible 1st Water Shortage Declaration. This water shortage is an historical event with one possible solution. The Keystone Pipeline could carry water instead of oil to the Midwest where farmers are now living in a dust bowl.

Farming across the Midwest will be challenged by a shifting climate and may struggle to keep up crop production.

US West Prepares for Possible 1st Water Shortage Declaration

U.S. water officials are projecting the man-made lakes that store water used throughout the American West will fall to historically low levels and trigger an official shortage declaration for the first time.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The man-made lakes that store water supplying millions of people in the U.S. West and Mexico are projected to shrink to historic lows in the coming months, dropping to levels that could trigger the federal government's first-ever official shortage declaration and prompt cuts in Arizona and Nevada.

Colorado River water
will cascade down from the Rocky Mountains through Lake Powell and Lake Mead and into the arid deserts of the U.S. Southwest and the Gulf of California. Water levels in the two lakes are expected to plummet low enough for the agency to declare an official shortage for the first time, threatening the supply of Colorado River water that growing cities and farms rely on.

From Shasta to Folsom, shriveled reservoirs show depths of California’s drought disaster

JUNE 08, 2021 05:00 AM, UPDATED JUNE 08, 2021 12:44 PM
Instead of being flush with newly melted snow, Folsom Lake is the driest it’s been in springtime since the epic drought of 1977. Water levels are so low that temporary pumps probably will be installed to help move water out of the stricken reservoir.

Water levels at Lake Oroville have plunged to the point that its giant hydropower plant could be idled for the first time ever this summer,

The US May Be About to Declare Its First-Ever Water Shortage

This coming August, for the first time in its history, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation is likely to issue a Level 1 Water Shortage Declaration which would trigger mandatory cuts in water consumption primarily in two states — Arizona and Nevada.

The Colorado River flows all the way to the Gulf of California in Mexico, and it supplies water to over 40 million people living in seven southwestern states, 29 tribal nations, and two Mexican states.

I see a solution to the USA’s record water shortage while finishing the Keystone pipeline to carry water, not oil.

What do you think-?
Why do you think you deserve one drop of water from the Midwest? The left needs to make the west coast their own country. You want to live where it never rains then you want to steal everyone else's water. I'll tell you what, you stupid loons are why we are paying almost 5 dollars for gasoline when 12 months ago we were paying 2.35. So you can have water from the midwest at 5 dollars a gallon plus delivery charges. Treat it yourselves.

That’s a good point but if the pipeline route is designed properly gravity could carry the water most of the way.

really, down hill over the Rockies huh? Its uphill from the Mississippi to the continental divide. The answer is fuck no, move out of the desert and buy a a jacket and live where it rains and snows. then you can have water.

great idea. Now all you have to do is lay another pipeline from Canada to the west coast.

You know some countries build recharge dams to capture ground water.

You believe what you want, as far as I am concerned the keystone pipeline needs to be pumping oil

Just humor him so he doesn't hurt himself, ok?

Still living in the past are ya maga fuckup.

This was an idea I got at about 3:00 in the morning. I should of just kept sleeping.

Exactly what I was thinking.
The Keystone pipeline runs sort of along the Mississippi River, so a water distribution system already exists there, righ out in the open, on the surface.
The shortages are west and east of the Mississippi, so Keystone won't help.

We never plan ahead.. They should have been building recharge dams and capturing groundwater.

Sounds good, but bad idea.
In Oregon they are busting down most of the dams because they killed off too many fish.
The oceans are our ultimate food source and we need to keep them thriving.

And since the destination of Keystone was the refineries in Louisiana, then Louisiana will have lots of water.
Useless, unfortunately.

What his diagram ignores is that it is very energy and manpower intensive, meaning very expensive.
And the brine it produces is highly toxic.
Brine is very high salt content. Just needs a goid land fill in remote desert. .But yes it costs a lot. This is a desert. Too many there not enough water you will pay for water. .That or go thirsty
