Baltimore sees lowest murder rate in 50 years

From three weeks ago.

Key Crime Reductions (2025 Data)
  • Homicides: 133 in 2025, a 31% decrease from 194 in 2024, marking a nearly 50-year low.
  • Non-Fatal Shootings: Down 24-25% compared to 2024.
  • Carjackings: Decreased by 37% in 2025.
  • Violent Crime: Overall reduction noted, with drops in assaults and robberies.
Factors Contributing to the Decline
  • Community Violence Prevention: The city's Comprehensive Violence Prevention Plan (CVPP) has shown success in reducing gun violence.
  • Increased Clearance Rates: The Baltimore Police Department's (BPD) homicide clearance rate rose significantly, improving from 40.3% in 2020 to over 68% in 2024.
  • Partnerships & Hiring: Police Commissioner Richard Worley credited partnerships and increased hiring for the positive trends.

So what specifically lead to the lower crimes?

What does the CVPP actually do?

“Increased Clearance rates” how? Did they just revise the reporting metrics? Monkey math doesn’t mean crime actually went down.

Are they admitting hiring more cops as opposed to “defund the police” resulted it less crime?
