I know a lot of people who benefit if he signs this thing. In a nutshell, civil servants on I believe all levels do not pay into Social Security. They instead pay toward their pensions. It's almost like stealing, really BTW, the pensions are well beyond what most of us common get. But govt. rips everyone off anyway, one way or another, some more than others.

Anyway, if the govt. employees have paid into social security with private sector jobs, they don't receive the benefits social security affords them off the taxes they paid into the system. Instead, SS cuts the benefit based on primarily your pension amount. By real life example, "a guy I know" gets $330 SS, which if not for the penalty would be $700-$950, I can't remember. Substantial for common folk where $500 a month "raise" is a big deal. Shit, I've lost more than that spending power with Bidenflation. On the downside, it would stretch SS even thinner.

It's passed Congress and Senate, and now rests on Biden's desk. It will be interesting, as you know, the Democrats said Republicans are coming for Social Security. Must mean Biden will sign it right, show you know, he's not one of the "bad guys" coming for "your democracy" and stuff.

govt workers have been paying into SS since 1983....

This is true......I would think those under the old system (no SS pay-in) are very long in the tooth by now.

I mentioned it to the wife yesterday and while she thought it was total BS those that retired under the old pension system are dying off quickly.....She figured it was more of a survivor scam than anything else.

If a public pensioner that did not pay into the social security work system receives a hundred thousand dollars a year i understand the old way. If receiving ten/fifteen thousand dollars a year from a public pension and having their social security benefits cut to one third of what they qualify for, that is different. Especially if there is no COLA on that public pension. Adjustments can be made in legislation. Inflation is a destroyer of surviving.

For those who retired under Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) in fiscal year 2022, the average monthly annuity was $5,447. For those who retired under Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS), the average monthly annuity was $2,126.

Now there were some jobs like BP that retired you out at 57 and most of those folks had a career after .gov service.

Now if those people qualified for "full boat" SS in subsequent private employment, they should not have their SS fucked with.
