The military is a government employee. I was a teacher after the military. We paid into SS in FL as a teacher and as a DoD employee. I worked for the federal government from 1978-1994 and then 2006-2007, then as a DoA contractor from 2018-2022. I was also in the Navy Reserve from 1994-2001. I had a US government ID almost the entire time.
