Running a parallel investigation (one be it private/LE/FBI and the other being the MSM), is a very dangerous thing for a victim in such a case.

The competition on the information gathering, and then in the sharing of that information creates a situation that actually could compromise the much needed secrecy that is highly important in a LE investigation. The aim should be to keep the perpetrator in the dark until a trap is sprung on that perp or possible perps involved.
