The liberal machine at work

An award-winning teacher and debate coach at the prestigious Bronx High School of Science — who likes to dress up like Liberace — paid teenage boys to send him nude and other lurid photos of themselves, the feds charged on Friday.

Jonathan Cruz, 31, spilled his guts after he was busted at his pad at 60 East 9th Street in the East Village about 9:40 a.m., admitting he had showered at least five victims with hundreds of dollars of gift cards in exchange for fetish photos of their feet, crotch shots and also “thumbs-up” selfies, according to a criminal complaint.

People were all over pedophiliac priests but they give a pass to pedophiles in teaching, who are probably more numerous.

Well NAMBLA has made appearances at gay pride festivals before. Not all that shocking.

Up to 70 years if convicted....

...For pretending to be a teen himself. So these guys had consensual, mutually desireable interactions with someone they thought was another teen, but who turned out to be an adult 'catfishing.' And no actual physical interaction.

I can usually get behind prosecution of child sexual abusers, but in this instance the only crime I see is how he misrepresented himself as another teen. Ironicly then, had he actually been another teen this probably wouldn't have gone all the way to law enforcement (NM having a Romeo and Juliet provision.) Only did because he was in fact an adult.

Revoke his teaching credentials for life, put him on whoever's sex offender registry (NY and NM presumedly,) and charge him for manufacturing and possessing child pornography. But no way 70 years. Murderers and actual child rapists don't get that much. If he has no criminal history, 5 years max. Unlike other child pornography charges and crimes, this was wholely consensual. And while obtained under false pretenses, compared to other incidents comparatively minor.

Manufacturing and possessing child porn should bring a bullet to the nape of the neck.

Too many times a leading gay activist (Terrance Bean comes to mind, Harvey Milk also) gets caught messing with kids. This is no accident and speaks volumes

None of the teens were under 12, nor did he actual have sexual contact with them. Whether he's a clinical pedophile or not isn't in evidence. If anything, given the ages of the teens he'd be a "hebephile" not a "pedophile."

Not excusing the crime, just not some asskiss saying we should throw him in a deep dark hole somewhere for not actually having sex with minors. Wanna brownnose go right ahead.

Pederast was an adult-minor relationship more akin to a modern mentorship. While it often included sex, it wasn't speicifly about sex. Quit using words you don't udnerstand, making yourself look like a dimwit.

And yes, he should do some hard prison time. Just not 70 years. Didn't actually have sex with anyone. And the teens were whorish enough to take pictures of themselves for money so not sure how they were victimized. Duped more like.

It can't be cured, time and time again sex offenders are released and commit more crimes, give him a choice 70 years or castration.

Why do you keep saying he did not have sex with any kid?

He may not have been caught having sex with kids in this sting.

But he has been having sex with kids, you can book that.

Fuckin' whorish kids.

While I'd actually be ok using some kind of modelling thing to predict future offenses and factoring that in to sentencing, our legal system doesn't do that as yet. For what he actually did, a 70 year sentence is beyond the pale.

Recall a crime a year or so ago in one of the nothern states where a teacher had sex with his student (actually had sex,) and when it got out he humiliated her, she commited suicide, but he only got 30 days. Wanna push for approriate punishments fine I'm with ya. But let's keep a free bed in a prison for guys like this and not ones who simply exploited the whory nature of teens but nothing else.

I'm aware of that case and the sentence was overturned and he was re sentenced, although I don't know what the new one was, the judge that issued the 30 day was also investigated. For the record I'm in firm belief all child sex crimes should carry very, very harsh sentencing. I don't care if it's homo or hetero

Sure. He shoulda. Probably did but rolled the dice anyway. And he should punished for it. My thing's simply not punishing him like someone who actually held a kid down and raped them. At no time was he and the kids in the same room. The teens took the pics of themselves for money thinking another teen was paying them.

Worst thing the adult did was then possess child pornography.

Tend to believe the only reason this is a thing is because he was a teacher, and it was a gay thing. But actual stat rape incidents don't get this kind of punishment so applying a double-standard is both legally and morally unfair.

Conservative teachers get busted all the time, as do liberals, as do non politicals, for messing with the kids.
