The major problem with raising the minimum wage so that families could be supported on these wages is they lose their character as entry level jobs. They are now careers with long term job prospects. Then it becomes the same situation as is in France or Spain where the unemployment rate for the young is 30%. No one ever moves on from that minimum wage job. They stay until they retire. Under this plan, 2 fry cooks with 0 education and/or experience will be earning more than the current middle class family. That is how you destroy the middle class.

If it is hard enough already for people to find entry level jobs, we should not be making it harder by forcing the minimum wage upwards.

Again, a population of underpaid labor will not continue to support a consumer-based economy. Your dream of a nation of serfs and slaves is all well and good, but capitalism depends upon markets to function.
