So,
We had an outing yesterday at a gun range for the family to celebrate a birthday.

Lots of fun to be had there. We rented guns and bought ammunition and brought our own guns and ammo.
Everything was very reasonably priced. (The waiver was a PITA but understandable.

There was only one detractor....

There were some younger gentlemen there who had ZERO experience with Firearms, handguns or how to safely behave around them. And that made us ALL a bit nervous. Because you didn't know what they were going to do next. Whether they knew proper policing of the gun loaded or unloaded. How to assure those around you that you were being careful.

But otherwise....it was a BLAST. My father and I blew through 80+ rounds ourselves. My wife and her father blew through at least 100 rounds through two pistols. All total the cost was around $130.

We killed the targets. They died honorable, but holy, deaths.

Afterwards we all decided to get a skeet launcher and we all are shopping for one now. (I already got a case of skeet)
We just had too much fun to not do this again soon.

If any of you had similar experiences or more fun experiences at indoor ranges feel free to tell us about it. Did you rent a gun you wanted to purchase? Is it better to visit a place you can "try before you buy"?

My octogenarian father brought his .45. Where I found it to be a great handgun he feels like it's too much for him. And I somewhat agree. Getting that second shot off quickly is not happening with a .45. No double tap happening with that one whatsoever. But considering the stopping power of a .45....probably unnecessary unless you miss the first shot.

Sounds great. Some years ago we had a similar outing with a bunch of friends shooting sporting clays. It was like a day on the golf course. Great fun.

Were they human silouette targets?

That much effort to write the story is wasted unless you get the attention of those opposed to the careless handling of guns John.

I hate being around the hoi polloi when shooting. Bunch of goddamn gun fondlers.

I was looking at skeet launchers. Looks like $100+ for a pedal launcher. Or maybe a different one. Dunno.

Then it's just a trip to the farm. (I live in the middle of nowhere...we have lots of farms) Outdoor ranges skeet shooting is usually allowed, just got to bring your own skeet and launchers....and gun and ammo....maybe.

If you haven't shot skeet....you really need to try it. Lots of fun hitting moving targets. (My kind of gun control is steady aiming)

Best advice is get them skeet quick before they get away.

No....we could have used those. Just didn't. We grabbed one with 5 bullseye.

There were military guys there. I loved one guys target. He had silouettes.....but his groupings were so freaking tight.

From looking at his setup....he goes to the range often. They give him a discount....I'm willing to fund his trips if he needed it. Any soldier needing to practice....Im all up for that.

I was using my pellet gun in the city limits last week. (Using Firearms inside city limits....no no) I was trying to get my scope sighted in. (Not an old daisy bb gun....mine has a LOT more power (it WILL put your eye out if it doesnt kill you)....and a silencer)
And what I noticed was that the similar skills needed was the body movements and stilling of movement. The firm stance and controlled sighting. It completely translated even though it was a completely different gun and a firearm.

Geezus! If I saw someone who looked as creepy as that, I'd shoot him on general principles alone.

:eek-52:
It's just a target pad you can purchase on Amazon. It's to help understand where to aim and why...if shooting people.

I’m out of commission for a while due to a shoulder surgery. My boy carried me to the range with him on Saturday where I got to play the part of spotter. Not as much fun as putting rounds down range, but a good day with my son.

A day with your adult children is ALWAYS a good day.

Took my son's TA to the range a couple summers ago, - 90lb kid from mainland China.
He was geeked about being able to shoot, to the point where I made my son follow him around to make sure he didn't run out in front of the firing line or some other stupid thing.

I lined him up with my M1A; he was in shock after the 1st round. Fired the next 4 with his eves closed,
