Turkey would have been a Russian resort a long time ago without Turkey's European and American allies. Now that the UN and NATO are essentially worthless that outcome is a very likely possibility. Erdogan is a moron.
Russian-Turkish relations don't begin with establishing of NATO.
Always co-existed before, mostly hostile to each other with lots of frictions but without any of the two having the capability to annihilate the other. Mostly conflicts outside their respective core territories.
Russia as well as other European powers always had the advantage over Turkey:
In WW1 Turkey had a population of 18 million, just 9-10 million of them Turks, the rest rebellious minorities. Russia had 166 million population in WW1.
Russia had 9 times the population of Turkey in WW1.
Today the population ratio is just 1.7 in favor of Russia and by 2050 Russia and Turkey will have roughly same population size, and a lot of Russian population will be Muslim.
Things have changed a lot.
In case of Armenia and Azerbaijan the power-balance is shifting each day in favour of Azerbaijan. Today Azerbaijan's military budget is bigger than Armenia's state budget.
Being on Armenia's side is being on the loosing side.
Off course, Armenia will be subdued by Azerbaijan, be it today or tomorrow.
Europeans never lifted a finger for Turkey let alone sending their sons defending Turkey. LOL.
With USA it is more complex.
