Astronomy and binoculars

As time goes by, I could ask the gf and my two boys for things like that for birthday, father's, whatever day etc..

I was just thinking. The telescope comes with a mobile phone holder that clamps to the eye piece. I noticed on the laptop you can move the night sky about and you can put cross hairs on an object. I assume if that was on my phone, on the telescope and I moved the telescope about, it would show on the phone what my telescope is pointing at 🤔

The instruction book is one A4 sheet with pictures and no mention of the phone holder. I'll have to see if there's downloadable useful manuals. There's a solar filter to project the image onto a piece of card/paper, but not bothering with the sun, doesn't interest me.
No idea mate, phones didn't exist back when I was doing all that.

The light intensity coming out of the eyepiece is very small so I'd be surprised if the phone's cam was able to register that but I'm often surprised these days!

I think it's just to hold the phone beside the eyepiece, so as you move the telescope, the night sky on the phone moves too, align the phone to the telescope. So as the crosshairs hit say Saturn on the phone, the telescope is roughly pointing at Saturn. Well, that's my thinking, but I could be wrong.

Do you know on google maps on street view, as you move the phone, the view is like you're standing there moving your head about, that's my thoughts with the phone and telescope.

Nope, it is actually for taking a picture of the image from the eyepiece, I'm surprised (but as I said these days I often am!).

Looks like it could be fun actually.

Ok, still waiting for clear skies.
Yes, that's a reality but Scotland is pretty north and far less industrialized than say London or Liverpool, once the clouds piss off I think you'll get very good viewing conditions the northern sky is very dark in the winter.

Old Patrick was one of my heroes as a kid, to think I'd eagerly wait a month at a time for a fifteen minute show, my how times have changed.

Clear skies Thursday and Friday night.

I watched loads of the Sky at Night programmes over the decades.

Space used to be exciting, but sadly it has become dull and repetitive and less and less stimulating. Astronomy is fine of course, but the way space is talked about these days it has become just dull.

Yeah, SpaceX reliability, and frequency almost makes space seem safe, heaven forbid!
