Several years ago I won a Remington 710 chambered in 30-06 in a raffle.
That looks a lot like it.
Nah, the 710 had a detachable mag. No indication of that the pic. That said it's a typical ATF potato pic but I'm going with a Mauser-ish barreled action of some flavor (likely surplus) in a modern stock.

It also a has a Buehler low-throw type safety. They were added to get shed of the .mil safety and be better able to use a low mounted scope.

Redfield-type scope mount/rings. Fugly bent bolt.

All typical of a converted Mauser-type action.....I suspect many, many, thousands were converted in that manner.

I'm not seeing a step in the barrel so it could have been a converted US Springfield.

Definitely given the accurate reports other papers survived the crash.

...and why wouldn't they? They were in a plane that just crashed into a skyscraper and caught fire, then all crashed to the ground

Apparently the authorities have located a rifle that was likely used to kill Charlie Kirk.

The story I'm getting is this:
  • The have video of the guy which they are still processing.
  • They say he appears to be a college-aged male.
  • He fled the scene into the woods.
  • They found a "high-powered" bolt action rifle there.
  • They are processing other evidence while expanding an all out search.

This looks like a pretty well planned assassination. The killer knew scaly l exactly where Charlie would be and where he needed to be to get a clean shot. He even had an exit plan and got away, for now at least.

Usually these types of nutjob killers don't think that far ahead, or if they do it's a deranged half ass plan.

I wouldn't be surprised if the gun is completely untraceable and was deliberately abandoned. Leave the gun, take the canolli.

Otoh, the entire federal and Utah law enforcement agencies are focused on catching this guy and they have video. I hope they find him soon.
What Really pisses me off is the fact that it's only about 5K for the bulletproof screens needed to stifle long distance shooters. Kirk saw what happened to Trump and in my opinion his security detail to have been smart enough to insist that he use Shields.

Going forward I'll bet that those will become a regular fixture.

Honestly it’s not that difficult to hit a target just 150 yards away with a rifle. It’s basic shooting.
Yeah..... I don't think it was a pro.
Now if it was 1500 yds I'd say the field would be narrowed considerably. This is a person who had some marginal shooting experience and is probably registered somewhere at a rifle range.

I agree. According to our internet experts here I am an expert sniper because while in the army I could hit a target at 182 meters (200 yards} consistently each year.

I posted earlier he could have gone to a range and with minimal instruction and practice he could have done the same thing.

the shot was either 200 feet or 400 feet depending on which post you believe. easy distance for even a marginal shooter

I swear though, that scope mounting job makes one weep.

Gee,
I'm a nobody relative to these pol;politicians and activists......

But even I would scan the rooftops if attending a gathering that I KNEW angered a lot of people.
I don't understand how so many successful and nearly successful shooters are using prominent locations that defy common sense not to check and be aware of during these events?

Brilliant , very correct.
The passport of hijacker Satam al-Suqami was found a few blocks from the World Trade Center after the attacks on September 11, 2001. Additionally, other hijackers' passports were recovered from various locations related to the attacks. Wikipedia Go.com

Yep.... If he had room to stretch and aim he should have been dead before he pulled the trigger.
