Nice story, though most wouldn't give food away to the poor, as a social stigma exists about interacting with those struggling through poverty.

There is a difference between giving food or giving money though, as at least with food you know where it's going.

My only big issue with giving money to poor people is that they could use the money to buy drugs or alcohol rather than food or accommodation.

Liberals are the least likely to give to the needy, although they are the first ones to ask for a handout.
