As Expected, Trump's Incompetence Showing Bg Time

I have averaged 12% annualized in my personally managed investments since 2001. Pretty good in my mind and better than my professionally managed accounts, albeit with a higher risk tolerance.

I don't claim to be a market or economic guru, but I do follow the markets and common sense. As for these tariffs, expect short term bumps only. Mexico and Canada are in no place to go toe to toe with the US in a trade war. They will acquiesce or permanently lose revenue.
Well, I was trained and worked for Merrill Lynch and Pru-Bache in the 80's and I was one of the official analysts for the SW. Both companies had enough confidence in my ability to allow me to offer trade recommendations to their clients (with millions of dollars invested).

I have been trading my own account for the past 17 years and I have lived off of my trading and lived well. Today alone, my account is up 2.3% off of the short positions I am holding. Two of the long positions that I have are actually up today.

There is no reasoned thought whatsoever on Trump's tariffs, no strategy, no thought given to the increase in prices for American consumers, and surely no thought of Mexico, Canada, and China finding other suppliers of food or raw materials and no coming back to American suppliers when these mindless and counter productive tariffs are ended.
Please explain how my costs will increase if I never buy anything imported from Canada or Mexico.

Check back in18 months to decide whether Trump's tariff gambit was wise or stupid.
You didn't have those patients on gas prices when pos trump brokered the OPEC+ deal, with led directly to lower gas supply and higher prices, and you immediately BLAMED it all on biden.

Gas prices slowly declined after the initial surge due to OPEC+ deal.

NOW, when gas prices RISE again, what TDS excuse will you give to defend trump?

How about people wait more than a day or two and see how this plays out long term. Oh right that might fuck up everyone’s preconceived political prejudices we can’t have that.

To democrats, it is natural that if we deport or jail criminals, we will all be less safe.
This OP is not about the illegals. It is about how Trump is trying to hurt other nations and they will respond in kind and try to hurt us.

As I have now stated for the past 8 years, the biggest negative about Trump is his incompetence.

Today, the Wall Street Journal is stating the incompetence in a public and national way

Wall Street Journal editorial calls Trump tariffs ‘dumbest trade war in history’

Donald Trump hit Canada and Mexico with a 25% tariff on imports, and China with 10%, on Saturday in a move that launched a new era of trade wars between the US and three of its largest trading partners. The tariffs against Canada tax oil and energy products at 10%. The editorial board of the Wall Street Journal called it “the dumbest trade war in history”.

Those are BIG words coming from a company that represents big business and is considered to be Conservative.

The WSJ is a division of Dow Jones, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. The paper's primary focus is business and economy but also covers other areas of news. The WSJ has several media platforms, including a daily print paper (except Sunday), web access, tablet and smartphone app editions. Its generally conservative positions on economic, political, and scientific topics have been influential.

When such a comment is stated by a company that has generally supported Trump, it carries a lot of weight.

For your information, today the Dow Jones is due to open 600 points lower due to the tariffs. That is money talking.

Already a pissy pants thread on this WSJ article, Simp.

We already KNOW how this will play out.

Trump will feel the pressure from the American people for trump DIRECTLY causing rising prices, then cancel the tariffs, then claim VICTORY, and the cult will proclaim trump a hero.

Actually you don’t know how it will play out like all blind partisans on the left and right you assume you do to validate your political prejudices. I don’t take people on either side seriously when they have already decided they will be against everything someone does before they even do it that is the vast majority here.

As of right now and with these tariffs, all cars will cost at least $3,000 more. That includes American made cars.

General Motors has dropped 18% in price over the past 5 days and today alone, it is down 7%

As I noted he has a track record already. First two years we had claim after claim that this company or that company was going to move production back to the U.S. and it didn't happen.

All this is going to do is raise prices and swing Canada and Mexico into China's corner.

They will send worse criminals than they have been sending?

When money is involved, it means something. The markets are down today. GM (General Motors) has dropped 18% in 5 days and that means Billions of dollars lost.

Who cares what the Wall Street Journal says? We need to start manufacturing things in this country, so I say, bring on the tariffs. Short run = likely problems. Long run = this is the best way.

It is not about sending criminals. It is about causing pain to Americans. This drop in the market has NOTHING TO DO with Trump deporting illegals.

Stay with the OP. This is about pain to Americans.

Time will tell which is my point right here and now none of us know how this will play no matter much we like to believe we do.
