I had two friends in the Navy you would have a hard time classifying. Derek (nice white sounding name, right?) was from the NY barrio and was a dyed -in-the wool Puerto Rican. He didn't even have a driver's license. He looked like one of the guys pictured in the OP. Andy (Andrew, another nice white sounding name, right?) was from Florida. He was tall, skinny and looked like if he stood in the sun for more than 5 minutes, he would turn red. Both were Hispanic, but you would never know it by looking at Andy.

The irony is that Andy replaced Derek when he transferred. Derek was my roommate on the ship and Andy took over that space also. Their wives were my wife's best friend for the three years I was there.

I had two different roommates on that ship who looked nothing alike, both Hispanic and also both white.
