Are you ready to lose your Job and Income?

No, it doesn't. What AI supplies is the ability to analyze data. Huge mountains of data. It's not going to come over and fix your plumbing, wire a ceiling fan or build you a chicken coop. It's not going to trim your trees, fix the hole in your fiberglass boat or fabricate new heating duct. It's not going to rebuild the carb on the lawn mower you left bad gas in, or fix your chainsaw, or install a new thermostat in your Chevy.

It's not going to build you a shed, turn a new spindle to match the one your teen broke on your staircase railing, or rebuild an inline 6 cylinder tractor motor.

Not at present but they are working on it.

Nonetheless:
  • Robotics Integration: While a general AI program won't show up with a toolbox, AI is heavily integrated with robotics in controlled environments like manufacturing and warehouses to perform specific physical tasks such as assembly, sorting packages, and even some types of welding.

I can do every one of those things and more.

And I have chickens, and a garden and I hunt and fish.

I can add goats and rabbits and I'm almost self sufficient without hunting and fishing.

________

Now, here's the 64,000 dollar question ... where the **** were you when WE were making this argument about shipping American jobs overseas to save money on labor???

And we're not talking about the 80s and 90s, we're talking 2015 and 2016.

You didn't give a single ****... and to this very day you rail against Trump Tariffs attempting to level the playing field and move manufacturing back to America.

Why do you care about AI and robots?

Because it's white collar jobs now at risk? Cry me a river.

And these entry level jobs you demanded provide the same wage as skilled labor? And now they are being replaced by automation? We screamed in your faces for years this is exactly what would happen. Your stupidity fueled the advancement in robotics and AI... because you created the surge in demand for automated replacement of human workers. You made the initial outlay of capital a reasonable alternative. A machine can handle the fry station and flip hamburgers.

Reap what you've sown. There is nothing for the government to do about it now.

I've stated I believe it is going to happen long before this thread.

Which is exactly why we need manufacturing here in America now more than ever. We'll need the tax base from these automated companies to fund the survival of those displaced by automation. Automation is going to replace millions of jobs.

A completely autonomous truck just made a solo trip through Texas with no in-cab supervision whatsoever.

Very soon, autonomous trucks will take over long haul trucking, as driving forward down the interstate takes very little skill even for human drivers. New Semis are automatics, go the AI driver doesn't even have to shift.

Human drivers will likely be used initially for the last 20 miles of the deliveries and pickups.

AI will also replace forklift operators and warehouse workers.

And secretaries, front desk personnel, fast food workers, coders, doctors, surgeons, stock traders, bank tellers, customer service reps... the list goes on and on.

This is the little I know. And I mean that. I wonder how this stuff looks when it undergoes a nice round of NDE inspections. I think this may be the limitation of 3D printed stuff. At least for today.

The Rolls Royce machines use lasers to weld up the metal powder into the desired shapes. Took something like 152 individual pieces and reduced it to 15 or 16. Thus the enhanced reliability.

But that type of machine is extremely expensive. Few companies can afford them.

When has innovation replacing human labor not been the case? I'm not saying this is good, necessarily, but it's not new and we have yet to reach a point in society where there are millions of jobless people rioting in the streets.

We will be like the movie Wall-E until the AI gets smart, then well be like the movie iRobot.

Yep. What robots and AI will be great at are repetitive actions in a fixed location ... at least at first.

By the time they can do the things I'm referencing, I'll be long out of the work force ... but I'm saving now to buy myself a autonomous companion to take care of some of the chores around the house in my old age.

But for now they aren't going to be replacing the water pump in your washing machine.

Are you ready to lose your Job and Income?

AI is likely to take both away from you, unless you have one of these:

AI Overview

Jobs that are difficult for AI to replace include those requiring high levels of empathy, creativity, and complex manual dexterity, such as healthcare professionals, creative artists, teachers, and skilled tradespeople. Other AI-resistant roles include those in strategic leadership, law enforcement, and high-risk occupations like firefighters and surgeons, which need unpredictable problem-solving and human judgment.

Do you have one of those? If not, look to be without a job and income!

What makes it even worse is that under the Trump administration, there are no restrictions or controls, meaning that his rich Billionaire supporters are going to get filthy rich with AI and he is supporting them doing it.

What a shocker, another thread from AI. Garbage in, garbage out then copy and paste.

Prompt engineer? Wouldn't that be you? Some dummy that makes up questions to feed to AI.
No, we do not need AI to tell us that AI will be taking our jobs and income from Millions of people. It is common sense because that is what AI is SUPPOSED to do, in order to enrich the pockets of the billionaires that use it to make bigger profits!

Yet your OP is based on what AI has to say ...go figure.

This isn’t political. AI is going to take a lot of jobs. Learning a skilled trade is the way of the future. Sending your kids to college and spending 100k to get a degree is becoming more and more of a waste. Spend less than 1/2 of that on them learning a trade. Spend the other 1/2 on helping them get started with a business utilizing this trade. It is a difficult thing to do as a parent though because we have been told that getting a college degree is the key to success. We all want to feel proud to say that our kids are graduates of xyz University, but the reality is that many can be much more successful not going that route.
Daddy Buying Dummy a Job

America has been starving talent with this upside-down payment for job training. That attitude accounts for the banana-peel condition we are in.

There seems to be a lot of commoner Prog Socialist Politicians who are a lot richer now than when they entered politics. If everyone is of the proletariat class, then all are the same. No steak for them and spam for everyone else.
The Nobility with No Ability

The upper birth-classes must have all their privileges taken away. The fact that there is no group with that as its main agenda, and never has been, proves that everything that is proposed to the public as an alternative is controlled by the 1%

Are you saying it is more prudent to send a kid to college and spend 100k to get a degree that he/she may not be able to use in this new world of AI?

Exactly What Baseball Does for Talented 18-year-olds

As a substitute for corporate taxes, businesses should decide what majors they can use, paying a high salary and the tuition for those with the best talent for the jobs.

Hmmm. All on Trump who has been in office for 9 months. Where, pray tell, was all of this urgency during the past four years of the vegetable and his enablers? LOL, transparent as a freshly washed window.
