In America, we still have the right to publicly disagree with our Government leaders, But our Democratic leaders in Congress are trying to chip away at this right with passage of the "Fairness Act". This will effectively put an end to free speech on the air waves. Why is this so? Because, as shown in the past, broadcast companies are not willing to risk the costs of getting sued. Rather then walk on eggshells, they will simply revert to playing music, sports etc...
If the Democrats win both the presidency and a majority of the seats in Congress, then this act will become law, and open the way for similar actions on the Internet. This will affect not only right wing bloggers, but left wing bloggers will also be forced to follow the dictates of some bureaucratic agent. So much for freedom of speech in our democracy.
Of course in a democracy, the government is supposed to be a servant of the people, but under socialistic/communistic systems, the people are the servant of the government. People who travel to socialistic/communistic countries feel the presence of watchful eyes and listening ears. Even in the company of friends and relatives, a slip of the tongue could find it's way to a government official ready to apply repressive measures. Do we want this in America?
Maybe Americans are tired of their freedom? Maybe they are ready for a "change"?
Attacking free speech is only one of many ways the Democratic Party ends up undermining freedom. Another example is the free market system. Low tax rates on both small and large businesses has provided the capital needed to expand business, create jobs and produce the most robust economy the world has ever seen. But when things have gone wrong in the economy, it's usually caused by government intrusion into the free market system. The current Stock Market fiasco is a prime example of this. The Democrats were active in promoting sub-prime lending without oversight early in the Bush administration. President Bush recognized that the lending practices were unsound and submitted a bill to Congress for corrective action, but the Democrats blocked the bill and a melt down of the Stock Market ensued. The pity of this is that the Democrats during an election year are gaining in polls over the Republicans. and more likely to win control of the presidency and the congress. If so, the freedom of the people who risk their effort and capitol to form and expand successful businesses will be hampered by the higher taxes promised by Obama. He constantly says he wants to help the middle class more then the rich. This is misleading because the current tax code has lowered taxes on both! As a result, many middle class business owners have successfully moved to the "rich" category. They in turn have added more capitol and brought more prosperity to the economy.
The rich are not the enemy. They risk their time, talent and capitol to form companies and create jobs. Why then are they so viciously attacked by the Democrats? Well, as Hitler exemplified, find someone to blame for the poor state of affairs and you can gain a following and much political strength.
Obama is continuously blaming the failed policies of President Bush even though he and his fellow Democrats refused to work with him to get the sub prime lending program under control, which resulted in the Stock Market melt down. It has been said that if you repeat a lie often enough, it will be accepted as the truth. Please do not let Obama destroy our free market system with a history of great economic success and replace it with socialism with a history of bureaucratic bungling and failure.
