As I recall, they were protesting Israel's illegal occupation of the West Bank and blockade of Gaza. Israeli troops may have left Gaza but they still imposed cruelty.

I don't doubt that Hamas has done terrible things to Jews, but I don't think that anything happens in a vacuum. Jews must have done something that prompted the Hamas to act this way. Granted, the Hamas are bloodthirsty, but I am pretty sure Jews have to take some blame, too.
