Unfortunately, in the book and in the movie, the writers were careful to say that Buffalo Bill only thought that he was transgender and that the wise gender specialists he had visited had rejected his requests for gender affirming care, because the brilliant psychiatrists saw that he was really a self-hating man, not a transwoman.

I wonder how that would play if the movie was made today. Today we are taught that people are what they say they are, so if BB said "I am a woman," he would by definition be a woman.

Hollywood knows that transwomen are not women. That's why they only cast transwomen as transwomen, not as women.
