Recently USMB has had pop up ads after several function uses...It's quite annoying...

I understand that these sites use advertising to make money to pay for the site, but it's getting ridiculous...

So, I wanted to see if anyone else is having this issue...

I don't think I've ever gotten popups here. You might be watching too much porn. Scan your computer.

Nah, I never watch porn on my PC....Grand kids get ahold of it from time to time, and I wouldn't want them getting that shit...Plus, it's not porn related, it's more trying to sell me shit...

In that vein then, is there any free anti virus program I can use that will scan and clean out this computer? One that is safe, and not a scam itself?

You running Win11?
I'm not sure...The laptop updates automatically....I am asamed to say, I'm not really that computer literate...My wife usually checks that stuff when I have problems....

Do a search for free anti virus protection (or other such sites) and you should be able to find several options. I have used Avira and also Avast and they periodically run a scan. Though they only 'clean' a portion for free but a more thorough cleaning will cost a yearly subscription fee.

You can also download a popup and/or ad blocker for free as well.

So, you're saying I shouldn't be skeptical of these sites that come up on the search at Google?

Well of course you should.......but when doing the search, you'll get different sites that rate 'free anti' programs. The sites doing the ratings are what you'd need to check on and don't EVER click on any 'ads' sites. There is usually some name brand rating sites available that would be more trustworthy and don't just go by one site, but check several to look for any that say the same programs are good ones. Make sense???

Yes, and thanks for the help...

Hold up a minute.......I just did a search for free antivirus and instead of coming up with a bunch of rating sites, it showed each anti site independently. But there was a Forbes option as well that you can compare different options. Most are well known sites and no 'ACME' types. Of course any free protection is only going to do the basics and if you want a more full protection it'll cost ya.
