Is it possible to install WhatsApp and none of my contacts are included. Then I can choose who to add to it?

Thank you people for your input. I've found out that WhatsApp tells all your contacts you're on WhatsApp, then I would have to individually block people just to leave the odd one I need WhatsApp for.
